Eureka prides itself on being “The Friendliest Town on the Loneliest Road.” Built in 1880, and restored in 1993, the Eureka Opera House is the main attraction. Once home to silent movies, it now provides space for meetings, special events and theater productions. The Utah Shakespeare Festival has graced its stage for special performances of the Bard’s great works. Other interesting attractions include the Eureka County Courthouse, which boasts two large bells cast in Cincinnatti, Ohio, and San Francisco; the Jackson House Hotel, which was remodeled in 1998; and Al’s Hardware, once a saloon and cash store.

Directly across the street from the courthouse is the Eureka Sentinel Museum, which housed the former Eureka Sentinel newspaper from 1879 to 1960. On the ground floor is an authentic 1880s press room with original newspaper equipment throughout the room. The museum also displays original mining equipment and ledgers, military uniforms, a reconstructed 1880s barbershop, and exhibits depicting life in the early days of Eureka.

Mining is still a strong industry in Eureka, and visitors can tour the Barrick Ruby Hill Mine. Perhaps the richest commodity in Eureka is the great outdoors – there’s plenty of hiking, hunting, fishing, and biking in every nook and cranny of this Nevada town.
